Drag Queens Are People Too! is a tender, semi-autobiographical truth-telling children’s story about a young boy whose imagination always shone bright — until the day his bright became “too much” for his father.

It was perfectly fine when Randy roared as the King of the Wild Things.

It was perfectly fine when he became a pirate, or played sheriff with his mom and dad.

But when that same sheriff started putting on earrings, trading boots for high heels, and stepping into the feathers and sparkle that made her into Sheriff Radly, the Sheriff Queen of the West… well, that crossed a line his sheriff of a dad just couldn’t bear.

What followed were summers at “conversion therapy camp,” seasons of shrinking, sadness, and a lonely struggle that never made Radly any less of a Queen — just more aware of the cost of not being loved as one.

Everything changes when Radly finally finds community — a circle of people who know that becoming who you truly are is its own kind of healing, and that helping others heal is sometimes the most royal act of all.
